The Consultant's Blog January 2013
And so am I! So much for the gloomy interpretations of the Mayan prophecies that had me procrastinating my way
through December just in case the world was going to come to an end!
It’s the start of a brand new year and time for us all to look back on what we did well in 2012, and decide what we are aiming towards this year.
Last year was pretty exciting for me. Here's my personal 2012 review:
- I wrote and published the first in The Consultant’s Guide series of books, "SAP: How to Write a Report Functional Specification". Publishing and marketing that was a steep learning curve, at times way outside of my comfort zone.
- I developed and launched this website, plus another half dozen to support family and personal interests. Thank goodness for the plethora of self-help books available so that I could teach myself some basic HTML!
- I became an approved affiliate trainer for SAP UK and worldwide in the Sales and Distribution modules. Not an easy process and an achievement that I am quite chuffed with.
- I managed to fit in some short term and remote working SAP contracts, a niche I had been hoping to establish for some time.
But before my head starts to swell with self pride, I will admit that I didn’t follow through on everything that I planned to! The
main goal of 2012 that I missed was writing and publishing the remaining three books in The Consultant’s Guide series of books. After
achieving the first one well within my allotted timeframe, I let myself sit back and relax. Then I got distracted! And yes, some of those
distractions were great fun and some turned out to be worthy achievements in themselves but the point is this:
It is very hard to achieve all of our goals all of the time.
So, rather than beating ourselves up for what we didn’t achieve, I prefer to take a few minutes to congratulate myself on what I have achieved. And
now I am ready to set my goals for this year – one of the first will be to have book two “SAP: How to Write an Interface Functional Specification”
available very soon. Thanks to some of my readers for the friendly reminders to keep calm and carry on writing!
Now its over to you – what did you do well last year? What can you be proud of and give yourself a virtual pat on the back for? And how are you
going to top your achievements this year?
Wishing you all the very best for the coming year – I am sure it is going to be a great one!
